Some information about the soloist.#

16 year old Brendan is in the sixth form at St Paul’s Catholic College in Burgess Hill.  He began to play the horn at six, achieving Grade 8 with distinction at ten.  He currently also studies at the Royal College of Music Junior Department. His other musical activities there include the RCMJD Symphony Orchestra (as Principal Horn), chamber music groups, for example brass and wind quintets, and tuition in piano and music theory.

 Brendan was a member of the National Children’s Orchestra for six years.  He is now in his second year with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, where he is Co-Principal Horn, and has also played in the South Downs Youth Orchestra for seven years.

 Brendan has won several competitions, including the Barbara Boissard Junior Concerto Competition at RCMJD.  He holds the DipABRSM Diploma in Horn Performance with distinction, and has been awarded several scholarships for his activities with RCMJD and NCO. He is partly funded by the Wolfson Foundation.

Brendan is also an accomplished pianist, and holds the ARSM Diploma in Piano Performance.  His non-musical interests include the Six Nations Rugby Tournament, Formula 1 racing and keeping tropical fish.
